4 Favorite Winter Activities You Can Drive to Near Dearborn, MI

1. Experience Winter at Greenfield Village

The seven historic districts of the fascinating Greenfield Village at 20900 Oakwood Boulevard right here in Dearborn tells the story of 300 years of American innovation. In the winter, the village turns into a magical wonderland where you can ice skate, ride in a genuine Model T Ford and a steam-powered locomotive, and spin on the carousel for spectacular winter views over the village.

During the Holiday Nights event, held throughout December, the village is alive with festivities. You can stroll through the streets and listen to the carolers, watch holiday cooking demonstrations, and enjoy free carousel rides. Greenfield Village is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours over the holiday season.

2. Sled Down the Ford Field Park Hill

Ford Field Park at 22051 Cherry Hill Street in Dearborn has the best sledding hill in the area. It’s a bit hard to get to the top but use the stairs on the left side of the hill. Having a blast flying down the hill is well worth the effort. The park gets busy, so watch out for other sledders. The park has restroom facilities and plenty of parking.

3. Glide over the Ice at Campus Martius Park

Take a short 9-mile drive to Detroit to ice skate at Campus Martius Park at 800 Woodward Avenue, the region’s ultimate ice skating destination. In winter, people from near and far flock to the park for fun on the ice, the spectacular views of the Detroit city skyline, and to watch the world’s best Olympic and US champion skaters perform on the ice.

The Campus Martius Park rink is open daily between November and March.

4. Be Brave and Take the Plunge

Do your part for a good cause and register for the annual Polar Plunge this winter to help raise funds with the Law Enforcement Torch Run team for training and services to over 22,000 Special Olympics Michigan athletes with intellectual disabilities. There are two ways to do this: you can raise funds for the cause or, if you’re brave, donate $100, take the Plunge yourself, or organize a team to do it with you.

Remember, it’s for a good cause and gives you a lot of winter bragging rights when your name appears on the leaderboard.
