2022 Ford F-150 Lightning
The new Ford F-150 Lightning takes everything you love about the F-150 truck and gives it a completely electric powertrain. This new pickup will have impressive towing power, a modern cabin, and the latest safety and entertainment features. This innovative truck will not only have electric power to propel it down the road, but it will even be able to power your house using the Ford Intelligent Backup Power system.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The Lightning comes in four different trims. The base-level Pro is a simple work truck available for business and fleet customers, while the XLT will hit dealership lots for all customers. It will come with a gray ion satin metallic grille, black fixed running boards, a signature front LED light strip across the front, and LED headlights. The Lariat adds to this with a red LED taillight strip in the back. The XLT offers 20-inch alloy wheels, while the Lariat makes them standard, and the Platinum has 22-inch alloy wheels.
Engine (Power)
Power for the Lightning comes from two electric motors. When equipped with the standard-range battery, these produce 426 horsepower, which bumps up to 563 with the extended-range battery. The extended-range battery also helps the Lightning achieve 775 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
All-wheel drive comes standard with every Lightning, and it has selectable drive modes to help the driver maximize performance. The modes include Normal, Off-Road, Sport, and Tow/Haul. With the available tow package, this truck can pull up to 20,000 pounds, and it can also handle a 2,000-pound payload with the standard battery and 1,800 pounds with the extended range.
Interior
Inside, the Lightning looks a lot like the regular F-150. The XLT and above come standard with a retractable shift lever to create a larger work surface. Cloth upholstery comes in the XLT with leather available in the higher trims, and it also has a power-adjustable driver's seat. Move up through the trim levels to add more convenience and comfort features such as Mas Recline front seats. These seats fold down to almost 180 degrees, creating a comfortable place to sleep or rest while your Lightning charges.
Tech features include two 12-inch screens on the dash. One is a configurable screen for the driver, and the other is a touch screen for the infotainment system. SYNC 4 comes standard along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and navigation. An 8-speaker B & O stereo system is an upgrade for the Lariat.
Safety Features
All Lightnings come well-equipped with safety systems as part of the Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0 suite. It includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, rear parking sensors, reverse braking assist, and automatic high beam headlights. A blind-spot monitor is also part of the group, along with rear cross-traffic alert. Co-Pilot Assist 2.0 is available with adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centering, intersection assist, and evasive steering assist.
The Platinum takes safety a step further with Ford's Blue Cruise system. This hands-free driving system works on 100,000 miles of roads across the states.
